ABOUT
The Scotiables is an indie-folk band from Wolfville, Nova Scotia. All members of the band, Jade Johnson, Ananda Kavanagh, Meegan Lovett, Mike Glenn and Liam Patterson are integral members of the vibrant Annapolis Valley Songwriter scene so this natural collaborative is making heads turn with its unique original song transformations, impeccable harmonies and playful melodies. The band has up to three sets of fun filled folk songs (both original and unique covers) that will make you dance, laugh and cry and sometimes all at the same time!
Jade Johnson
Singer/Songwriter - vocals, guitar, flute, percussion
Jade Johnson is a local singer/songwriter originally from Windsor NS. She has been part of the Valley music scene since 1999 when she moved to Wolfville to attend Acadia University for a Music Theatre Degree. Her passion for song writing originated from a love of poetry and a thirst for music. That thirst led her to learn to play a variety of instruments(including flute, saxophone and clarinet to name a few). Jade has performed in many different venues from local establishments, folk festivals, Night Kitchens, and even the Metro Centre. She ran a Songwriters Circle for three years, and plays not only with the Scotiables, but has a duo (Jill and Jade) and a solo career.
Ananda Kavanagh
Singer/Songwriter - vocals, guitar, mandolin, banjo, percussion
Ananda Kavanagh began absorbing music by osmosis as a child as his parents regularly filled evenings in the living room and road trips with duets. Growing up in as rich a musical community as the Annapolis Valley also has its advantages, and by his early twenties Ananda was regularly contributing studio recording and stage performances to local acts.
Beginning as a drummer and percussionist before branching out into guitar and vocals, his songwriting draws from a multitude of influences, including his friends and collaborators within the local music community.
Meegan Lovett
Cellist
Classically trained at the Nova Scotia Conservatory then moved to British Columbia, this Nova Scotian-born recording artist/cellist began her passion for performing to audiences in 2005. Meegan’s music not only traverses over broad musical boundaries but has also led her across our vast Canadian shield where she now lives, back at home in the Annapolis Valley region.
Meegan contributes her talents as a diverse musician to numerous mixed disciplinary artistic endeavours, performing both solo concerts with artists such as renowned Canadian singer/songwriter Allison Crowe, but also in a variety of musical groups including the trio“Troi Femme”, and currently, The Scotiables.
Mike Glenn
Singer/Songwriter - vocals, guitar
Born in Sackville, NB to an RCMP family, Mike has lived in nearly every province across Canada sharing his passion for writing music, theatre and performing.
Michael has released three full-length albums, two in Canada, one in Europe, before making his way back to the Maritimes - full circle.
